It is about patent infringements, standard-essential patents - and about the new Unified Patent Court, which will start its work on 1 June: DPMA President welcomes international IP experts to three-day WIPO Master Class at DPMAforum.

DPMA President Eva Schewior has welcomed leading judges from all over the world to the three-day "WIPO Master Class" at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office. After the high-profile congress of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) had last taken place in Washington and Beijing, she was pleased that this year the Master Class would stop in Munich as the "European patent capital", the DPMA President emphasized. Schewior also said on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Justice that the exquisitely selected participants and the concrete and practice-oriented exchange format of the event will contribute to establishing an international network of competent judges. The ministry is co-host alongside the DPMA and WIPO.

Judges from countries such as the United States, Australia, India and Brazil will participate in the event, which will be held from May 31 to June 2 at the DPMAforum. Among others, the DPMA president personally welcomed Klaus Grabinski. The former judge at the Federal Court of Justice chairs the presidium of the new European Unified Patent Court. The court will start its work on June 1. A division of the central chamber will be based in Munich.

The WIPO Master Class will deal with issues such as patentability and patent infringement. In addition, topics such as pharmaceutical patents, the handling of standard-essential patents and the new European unitary patent system are on the agenda.
