Hungarian Intellectual Property Office jubilee
DPMA President Eva Schewior congratulates HIPO on its 130th anniversary

Congratulations to Budapest: The Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) is celebrating its 130th anniversary.
Eva Schewior, President of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, congratulates the office on its anniversary: "The Hungarian Intellectual Property Office is an established member of the network of IP organisations that promote innovation protection. The work of our colleagues at the Hungarian office generates economic momentum far beyond Hungary's borders. I warmly congratulate the HIPO (Hungarian Intellectual Property Office) on its 130th anniversary and look forward to further exchanges."
To mark the anniversary, colleagues in Budapest are hosting a specialist conference at the Museum of Ethnography and a gala dinner at the Museum of Fine Arts today, Monday 3 March. In addition to looking ahead to the future of innovation protection, the anniversary also provides an opportunity to take a look back at the archives: as early as 1889, Carl Zipernowsky from Budapest received a patent from the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin for his invention of an underground power supply for Trams (DE50285A).
