Geneva. A delegation from the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, led by President Eva Schewior, attended the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva and held a number of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the event. Bilateral meetings took place with, amongst others, the heads of the offices from the United Kingdom (UKIPO), Japan (JPO), Canada (CIPO), the United States (USPTO), Chile (INAPI), Israel (ILPO) and the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO).

During the discussions, President Schewior presented current developments at the DPMA as well as the application figures for 2025. Other topics included the technical and strategic direction of the offices and current developments in the field of industrial property. Many IP offices are already using artificial intelligence (AI) or are driving forward relevant projects in order to efficiently manage the rising number of applications and further optimise workflows. As most IP offices face similar challenges, President Schewior proposed an informal dialogue on this topic amongst the partner offices.
