Study: services offered by the German Patent and Trade Mark Office are among the top administrative services - DPMA pioneer in the strategic development of digital IP procedures

Four DPMA services among the top 100 administrative services for enterprises: The President of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer, proudly responded to the current study of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy: "The study highlights the great importance of the DPMA for the innovative strength and success of industry", emphasises Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer. The survey ranks patent examination, the grant of patents, trade mark protection and the provision of the patent register among the top services in the field of research and development.

140 years of the patent office in Germany: European leader among national offices

On Saturday, the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) will be able to look back on successful 140 years as an authority. Founded as the Imperial Patent Office (Kaiserliches Patentamt) in Berlin on 1 July 1877, the DPMA is the national centre of expertise in the field of IP protection today. More than 130,000 patents, trade marks, utility models and designs alone in the record year 2016, more than 2,500 members of staff as well as an income of 394 million euros make it the European number 1 of the national IP offices.

Survey about ICT Patents

The Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) is currently conducting a survey about ICT patents in the European Union within the research project CIFRA ("Challenging the ICT Patent Framework for Responsible Innovation") funded by the European Research Framework Programme HORIZON 2020.
The study aims to include the views and opinions of a wide range of stakeholders. With this purpose, the Fraunhofer Institute has developed an online-based questionnaire.
