Dr Maria Skottke-Klein is new Vice-President of the DPMA

Former Head of Directorate General 1 "Patents and Utility Models" joins senior management of the office – DPMA President Eva Schewior: "Great experience, outstanding expertise, excellent expert network"

Munich. Dr Maria Skottke-Klein, former Head of the Directorate General for Patents and Utility Models of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), joins senior management of the office and is now DPMA Vice-President. “I am very pleased that Dr Skottke-Klein is now Vice-President,” DPMA President Eva Schewior said. "She has held prominent leadership positions for many years and has been shaping the DPMA's strategy for a long time. With her great experience, outstanding expertise and excellent expert network, she will play a key role in shaping the future of the office."

Dr Maria Skottke-Klein was born in Hamburg. She studied chemistry at LMU in Munich and obtained her doctorate at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin. She joined the DPMA in 1991 and initially worked as a patent examiner until 1999. In addition, Dr Skottke-Klein took over tasks as a project manager in Directorate General 2 “Information”, where she headed the Program Management Section from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, she returned to patent examination as a classification and documentation officer and a group leader. In 2012, Dr Skottke-Klein became Head of Division and four years later Deputy Director General. In 2021, she took over as Head of Directorate General 2, one year later she became Head of Directorate General 1. As Vice-President, Dr Maria Skottke-Klein will join President Eva Schewior and Vice-President Bernd Maile at senior management level from 1 December 2023 on.
