Request for subsequent designation

By submitting a request for subsequent designation, you can add (subsequently designate) further countries to your international trade mark registration or add (for an already designated country) further goods and services from the list of your international registration (MM4). The request may be filed via the DPMA or directly with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

Submission channels

Applications to the DPMA can be submitted electronically via DPMAdirektWeb Internationale Registrierung – (without a signature) or via DPMAdirektPro. However, they may also be submitted by post or fax.

Note

If you wish to submit your application to the DPMA electronically and without a signature, please first complete the necessary forms, save them in PDF/A format on your computer and then upload them to DPMAdirektWeb – Internationale Registrierung. No signature is required on the documents (exception: Form MM18, see below).

Fees

The fee of the DPMA for the request for subsequent designation (fee number: 334 300; 120 euros) must be paid within one month after filing the application (Information on the payment of fees at the DPMA). If the fee is not paid in due time, the the request for subsequent designation is deemed to be withdrawn (Sec. 6 Patent Costs Act).
