Request for subsequent designation
By submitting a request for subsequent designation, you can add (subsequently designate) further countries to your international trade mark registration or add (for an already designated country) further goods and services from the list of your international registration (MM4). The request may be filed via the DPMA or directly with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Submission channels
Applications to the DPMA can be submitted electronically via DPMAdirektWeb Internationale Registrierung – (without a signature) or via DPMAdirektPro. However, they may also be submitted by post or fax.
Note
If you wish to submit your application to the DPMA electronically and without a signature, please first complete the necessary forms, save them in PDF/A format on your computer and then upload them to DPMAdirektWeb – Internationale Registrierung. No signature is required on the documents (exception: Form MM18, see below).

- Begleitschreiben an das DPMA zum Antrag auf internationale Registrierung einer Marke (M8005): This letter contains your application to the DPMA, in which you communicate to us your name, your contact details and the file number of your national basic mark a.o.

Designation subsequent to the international registration – MM4: Please use this form (available in English or French), published by WIPO, for your request for subsequent designation relating to an already existing international registration. You can download the form as a PDF from the WIPO website under
Madrid System Forms (at the very bottom under "Additional downloadable forms").
May be required:
- Zusatzerklärung von natürlichen Personen für Anträge/Anmeldungen und Einreichungen aufgrund des 14. Sanktionspakets gegen Russland i. S. des Art. 5s Abs. 1 VO (EU) 833/2014 (A 9520) (Supplementary declaration by natural persons for applications, notifications and submissions under the 14th sanctions package against Russia within the meaning of Article 5s(1) of Regulation (EU) No 833/2014, only in German). As a natural person filing an application for an intellectual property right with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, you are required to submit this form, duly completed, to the German Patent and Trade Mark Office; see Notice of the President No. 1/24. In the case of joint applicants, this applies to each individual. If you have already completed the declaration in the accompanying letter, it is not necessary to submit it separately.

Claim of seniority (European Union) - MM17: This form (in English or French), issued by WIPO, is required if you designate the European Union and claim seniority. -
Declaration of intention to use the mark (USA) – MM18: For the designation of the USA, a declaration of intention to use the mark is additionally required on this form (in English) issued by WIPO. Please note that the submission of form MM18 is not possible without a handwritten signature. If necessary, you must print out and sign the form, and scan it using PDF/A format.
Fees
The fee of the DPMA for the request for subsequent designation (fee number: 334 300; 120 euros) must be paid within one month after filing the application (Information on the payment of fees at the DPMA). If the fee is not paid in due time, the the request for subsequent designation is deemed to be withdrawn (Sec. 6 Patent Costs Act).
