The Inventors Gallery of the DPMA honours 17 contemporary German inventors. The gallery was intended '?to contribute to strengthening people's confidence in their own abilities and to show the young people, in particular, that becoming an inventor may be a rewarding career?.' (said Dr Erich Häußer, former President of the German Patent Office, on occasion of the opening ceremony, on 13 September 1984.) This still holds true today. You can visit the Inventors Gallery of the DPMA online here.
For most of us 'a ball is a ball'. Or one of the pearls of wisdom offered by Sepp Herberger, former coach of the German national football team: 'the ball is round...'. Well, admittedly, 'that's old hat'?, but did you know that meanwhile the game may even be played with a smart, sensor-equipped, fully synthetic football? And it is not only the ball as such that has been and still is in the centre of interest of football enthusiastic inventors. There are also many inventions to improve to the pitch, the goal, the players' clothing, and the referee equipment.
