DPMAregister
Official publication and register
On a statutory basis, the DPMA keeps registers for the official data of all German IP rights, which are accessible to the public, and publishes the official publications (the data of 'Patentblatt', 'Markenblatt' and 'Geschmacksmusterblatt', and patent documents).
Via DPMAregister you can search the publication data and the current legal (including procedural) status of national IP rights. In addition, you can download complete issues or individual parts of Patentblatt (patent gazette), Markenblatt (trade mark journal) and Geschmacksmusterblatt (designs gazette).
DPMAregister is particularly suitable for conducting searches for IP applications and registered and granted IP rights, for gaining information on the current legal status of an IP right and for the regular and systematic monitoring of newly published IP rights.
The IP information published in the DPMAregister service constitutes the binding official publications of the register data and publication data.
Data available under DPMAregister
DPMAregister provides all bibliographic data and legal/procedural status data on the following publications:
- Patents and utility models
- published and granted patents and registered utility models as from 1 January 1981
- patents of the former GDR which are still in force
- data on supplementary protection certificates and plant protection products
- topographies
- Trade Marks
- complete register data on all current registered German national trade marks (since October 1894)
- complete data since 1 January 1998 on
- German trade mark applications
- refused or withdrawn German trade mark applications
- deleted German trade marks
- Indications of geographical origin (exclusively applications)
- Designs
- Register data of all registered and deleted designs having a filing date of 1 July 1988 or later
- Legal status data of all registered and deleted designs since 1 January 1998
- Complete images of designs, registered on 1 June 2004 or later

Patentblatt (patent gazette), Markenblatt (trade mark journal) and Geschmacksmusterblatt (designs gazette) are available in PDF format. You can display, print and download the complete journals or individual parts.
Official publication days
The register data are updated daily. Patentblatt (patent gazette) data are published weekly, as a rule on Thursday. Markenblatt (trade mark journal) and Geschmachsmusterblatt (designs gazette) data are usually published every Friday.
Publication days 2013
If the fixed publication days coincide with Bavarian holidays, the publication dates will be brought forward by one day, or even by two days in the Christmas week.
In 2013, the following publication dates will be brought forward:
Patents and utility models
- 9 May 2013 - this will move to 8 May 2013
- 30 May 2013 - this will move to 29 May 2013
- 15 August 2013 - this will move to 14 August 2013
- 3 October 2013 - this will move to 2 October 2013
- 26 December 2013 - this will move to 24 December 2013
Trade marks and designs
- 29 March 2013 - this will move to 28 March 2013
- 1 November 2013 - this will move to 31 October 2013
DPMAregister information
The enquiry units of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office offer a free telephone information service on the legal status of individual IP rights. Please note that the information can only be provided on individual file numbers specified by you.
DPMAregister searches
DPMA staff cannot conduct searches for you to find out, for example, whether an invention is prior art. Likewise they cannot perform similarity searches concerning trade marks or designs. Please contact commercial service providers, patent information centres, patent attorneys, attorneys-at-law or search agents if you require such services.
